New Hotel at the Pier Pavilion

Southwold Pier is one of the most exciting and innovative tourist destinations in the region featuring a first class restaurant and amusement arcade, aimed at family fun and automata by Tim Hunkin. In order to provide an attraction all year round and to capitalise a unique location the owner Stephen Bournes appointed Barefoot and Gilles to create a 30-Bed 'Boutique Hotel' to replace the existing 'International Style' Pavilion.

The exposed position on the sea wall and the architectural significance of the existing building meant that flooding was an issue together with conservation considerations. The Hotel is designed to withstand storm sea conditions and to be compatible with the style of the original 1930's building.
